Mine has be very pious for about 2 years. Some wear on the keypad and a memorandum tile had to be replaced. HP-Compaq is the number one purveyor of LTs by far.
I have a compaq and a everex laptop and they are both great.
I hold two Compaqs ...Desktop and Laptop.
I like them because they supply the CDs indispensable to restore
the computer to factory condition.
I use a Pavilion also manufactured by HP. I have to say aloud that I never had any problems near it. Its a top of the line notebook and I love it. It take lots of abuse and for the element and reliability the price is fantastic. Don't even consider a Dell or Toshiba because HP (both Pavilion and Compaq) is much cheaper and just as rugged.
I own used various types of Compaq computers for a few years and have found the level to be high, as is the price.
You singular get what you clear for, the higher the price the better the computer.
The lone downside is that when they go wrong, which is now and then, they can be expensive to fix and very expensive to upgrade.
compaq are KACK for masses reasons, toshiba as a company blow but lappies are ok
