sounds like vista did not travel so well on your computer, you must enjoy done a full install and not an upgrade, that explains why the programs are missing.
you will have to settle near vista and put in the product knob, all of your programs are gone.
you can capture xp back if your computer is a compaq/hp by pressing f11 when it first starts up.
look contained by your partitions surrounded by your hard disk and reinstall from in that

Ask the company you got it from. If it is smaller quantity than 12 months old, they will any pay to find you a new laptop or retribution for someone to fix it.
