Well that system will run some basic games no problem, it really depends on what type of gaming you hold in mind. If you're going to play fps games or rpg's next you'll be more concerned with frame rates. That laptop will not render angelic frame rates, but it will run many other deep-seated games.
Hi. $800 is a tight budget for a gaming laptop. the one you have referenced isn't desperate, but the weakness of laptops for gaming have always be their video cards. Most laptops have pretty crappy (not much memory, or worse-shared system memory) video cards. They tend to bog down at the double if there is highly much going on on the screen. Also, elder games like Knights of the Old Republic don't hold (at least I don't remember it have - might have be patched since then) widescreen video resolutions. The game will stay play on a widescreen laptop, you only won't utilize the full screen. My counsel is to save up and buy a nice gaming laptop from Alienware or return with a custom job from a businesswoman so you can specify a better video card.
You're not going to find one for only $800.00!! Plan on spending at lowest possible $1500.00. I bought a mid range Inspiron and souped it up next to all the memory and RAM I could go and get, plus a good video card. Cost over $2000.00. An XPS gaming laptop ...underlying is around $2200.
